On this day in 1986: Diana Ross was at #1 on the U.K. singles chart with ‘Chain Reaction.’ It was written and produced by The Bee Gees (who also provided the backing vocals for the single). The single became her first #1 single in the U.K. since ‘I’m Still Waiting’ in 1971.
Also on this day in 1986: Mr. Mister started their second and final week at #1 on the U.S. singles chart with ‘Kyrie.’ It would go on to be ranked the #9 song for the entire year of 1986 by Billboard Magazine.
‘Kyrie’ is off Mr. Mister’s second album ‘Welcome To The Real World’ which produced two #1 hits, ‘Kyrie’ and ‘Broken Wings.’ It also produced an additional Top 10 hit, ‘Is It Love’ which peaked at #8 on the U.S. singles chart. ‘Welcome To The Real World’ was ranked the 7th biggest album of 1986 by Billboard and would receive platinum certification in the U.S. with over one million copies sold.
