On this day in 1988: Steve Winwood went to #1 on the U.S. album chart with his fifth solo album ‘Roll With It’. The title cut also topped the U.S. singles charts. The success of the single “Roll With It” led to the subsequent singles “Don’t You Know What The Night Can Do?” and “Holding On”. “Don’t You Know What the Night Can Do?” had been written by Winwood to be featured in an ad campaign for Michelob beer, which began running on American television on the day of the Roll with It album’s U.S. release. Two other tracks from Roll with It: “Hearts On Fire” and “Put on Your Dancing Shoes”, also achieved radio airplay.
“Roll With It” became Winwood’s most commercially successful album, reaching #4 on the UK Album Chart and #1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 Album Chart, and has sold over three million copies.
