This Day In 80s Music, September 16th

On this day in 1985: Kate Bush released her 5th studio album ‘Hounds of Love.’ The album’s lead single, ‘Running Up That Hill’, became one of Bush’s biggest hits and the album produced three further successful singles in the U.S./U.K., ‘Cloudbusting’, ‘Hounds of Love’, and ‘The Big Sky’.

On this day in 1989: Gloria Estefan went to #1 on the U.S. singles chart with “Don’t Wanna Lose You.” It would spend one week in the top spot.

“Don’t Wanna Lose You” was released on June 21, 1989 as the first single from her debut solo album ‘Cuts Both Ways.’ The song was written by Estefan and produced by her husband, Emilio Estefan Jr.. The song reached #1 in the US, where it became her second #1 single on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and was also certified Gold.

The song earned a Grammy nomination for Best female Pop Vocal Performance but lost to Bonnie Raitt’s “Nick of Time.” Her live performance of the song at the 1990 Grammy Awards was released on the 1994 album Grammy’s Greatest Moments Volume I.
