This Day In 80s Music, November 4th

On this day in 1984: Prince played the first of seven nights at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan which was the start of his 87-date North American Purple Rain tour. The outing marked the live debut of his new band The Revolution.

On this day in 1989: Roxette scored their second U.S. #1 single with ‘Listen To Your Heart’. It was originally released in Sweden in September 1988 as the second single from the duo’s second studio album ‘Look Sharp.” It would spend one week in the top spot.

The song went on to become one of the most successful singles of 1989, reaching #1 in both the United States and Canada in November of 1989. The track was the first song ever to reach #1 in the U.S. without a commercially-released 7″ single.
