On this day in 1981: Kim Carnes began her second of NINE non-consecutive weeks at #1 on the U.S. singles chart with ‘Bette Davis Eyes.’ The song would go on the be ranked the #1 song for 1981 on Billboard’s year end chart and Billboard would also rank it the #2 song for the entire 80s decade behind Olivia Newton-John’s ‘Physical.’

On this day in 1982: The UK Musicians Union moved a resolution to ban synthesizers and drum rhythm machines from sessions and live concerts fearing that their use would put musicians out of work.

On this day in 1987: Twelve former members of the Doobie Brothers reunited for a charity concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. The show raised $350,000 for Vietnam veterans, about two-thousand of whom attended the show for free. Here’s a clip of the Doobies on their 1987 reunion tour:
