On this day in 1984: Bryan Adams went into Little Mountain Sound, Vancouver, Canada to record ‘Run To You’ for his fourth studio album, ‘Reckless.’ It would be the first single released from the album later in 1984. The music video shot in London and Los Angeles, was nominated in five different categories at the 1985 MTV Video Music Awards.
The track deals with the subject of infidelity, and is sung from the perspective of a man who declares that he will continue to “run to” his seductive mistress over his faithful partner; critics called it a “cheating classic”. In the accompanying music video, however, Adams portrays his guitar as the object of desire.
The song topped the Billboard Top Rock Tracks chart. It was his first #1 song on the Top Rock Tracks chart, a position it held for four weeks, and it spent an additional five weeks at #2 (all behind Don Henley’s “Boys of Summer”). and would peak at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100. It has appeared on all of his compilation albums.
On this day in 1987: U2 performed from the roof of a store in downtown L.A. to make the video for ‘Where The Streets Have No Name’, attracting thousands of spectators and bringing traffic to a standstill. The police eventually stopped the shoot.
