On this day back in 1981: Kim Carnes was enjoying her first week at the top spot on the U.S. singles chart with ‘Bette Davis Eyes.’ The song would spend five consecutive weeks at #1, giving up the top spot to Stars on 45 and their ‘oldies’ medley in late June.

‘Bette Davis Eyes’ would take the #1 spot back in the last few days of June and spend another four weeks at #1 before giving up the top spot to Air Supply’s ‘The One That You Love’ in late July.

‘Bette Davis Eyes’ is ranked the #1 song for the year 1981 by Billboard. It is ranked the #2 song of the entire 80s decade, finishing second to ‘Physical’ by Olivia Newton John.
