80s Album of the Week- Tropico by Pat Benatar (1984)

Tropico is Pat Benatar’s fifth studio album and a true 80s gem. Yes, it is certified platinum here in America with sales over 1 million copies (Pat’s sixth consecutive platinum selling U.S. album), but it is an album that is often overlooked in Pat’s amazing discography. Tropico would peak at #14 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

Tropico was released on November 1, 1984. It churned out two Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. “We Belong” would peak at #5 in January of 1985 and earn a Grammy Nomination and the “Ooh Ooh Song” would peak at #36 a month later in February of 1985.

In addition to the two Top 40 hits, the album produced some true 80s gems! “Diamond Field”, “Painted Desert” and “Temporary Heroes” are played in regular rotation here in Charlie’s 80s Attic and are songs you can’t help but fall in love with despite not getting their share of play on the average 80s stations.

Tropico is definitely an album that deserves a listen from beginning to end, so check it out! Be sure to keep it tuned to Charlie’s 80s Attic for the big hits as well as the deeper hits off Tropico in addition to several dozen additional Pat Benatar songs from her Hall of Fame worthy discography.
