On this day in 1984: Former back-up singer with Stevie Wonder,  Deniece Williams started a 2 week run at #1 on the U.S. singles chart with ‘Let’s Hear It For The Boy’, taken from the film ‘Footloose’, a #2 hit in the U.K.

It became Williams’ second #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100, also topping the Dance and R&B charts. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song, and was certified platinum in the US, gold in Canada and silver in the UK by the RIAA, Music Canada, and the British Phonographic Industry respectively. The music video was released earlier, in mid-April 1984.
