This Day In Music, February 19th

On this day in 1982: Ozzy Osbourne was arrested in San Antonio, Texas for urinating on the cenotaph at the Alamo, which honors the Alamo defenders. Osbourne was wearing a dress at the time of his arrest, (due to his wife Sharon hiding all his clothes so he couldn’t go outside). Osbourne was banned from ever playing in San Antonio, Texas again, (a ban which was lifted in 1992). When later interviewed, Ozzy said his next goal was to urinate on the White House lawn.

On this day in 1983: Kajagoogoo had their only U.K. #1 single with ‘Too Shy’. Also a hit in other European countries, 5 weeks at #1 in Germany, a Top 5 hit in Switzerland, Sweden, Austria, and Netherlands. The group had four other Top 40 hits in the U.K .

Also on this day in 1983: James Ingram & Patti Austin went to #1 on the U.S. singles chart with “Baby Come To Me.” It would spend two weeks in the top spot.

“Baby, Come to Me”, is a love ballad from Patti Austin’s 1981 album ‘Every Home Should Have One’ and was a duet with James Ingram with Michael McDonald on backing vocals. It was written by Rod Temperton (formerly of the band Heatwave). The song was released as a single in April 1982, peaking at #73 on the Billboard Hot 100. Several months later, American soap opera General Hospital began to feature the song heavily as the love theme for character Luke Spencer. It was re-released in October of 1982 and reached #1 on the chart on February 19, 1983.
