This Day In 80s Music, March 31st

On this day in 1984: Kenny Loggins started a three week run at #1 on the U.S. singles chart with ‘Footloose’, the theme from the 1984 film ‘Footloose’ starring Kevin Bacon.

“Footloose” was co-written and recorded by American singer-songwriter Kenny Loggins. It was released in January 1984 as the first of two singles by Loggins from the soundtrack to the 1984 film ‘Footloose’ (the other one being “I’m Free (Heaven Helps the Man)”. The song spent three weeks at #1, from March 31—April 20, 1984 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and was the first of two #1 hits from the film. Billboard ranked it the #4 song for the entire year of 1984.
